The options for an airport transfer Edinburgh (Scotland)

Edinburgh airport

How do you get to Edinburgh city center from airport? All tips about airport transfers and transport between the airport and Edinburgh Scotland.

From airport to hotel in Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Airport is located 13 kilometers west of the city center and has only one terminal. To get from the airport in Edinburgh to your hotel in the center of Edinburgh you have four options:

Option 1: Bus Transfer Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airlink Bus: This airport transfer is by far the cheapest option and the Airlink 100 departs every 12 minutes (between 04:00 am and 01:00 am) from bus stop A to St. Andrew Square (this is close to Princes Street in the New Town district and near the main train and bus station. Old Town is also 600 meters of the final stop). The journey takes 30 minutes and a one-way ticket costs just £4.50.

Tip: You can buy your tickets in advance, so you don't have to pay the bus driver anymore. In addition to Airlink 100, there are three more Skylink buses that depart to other parts of Edinburgh such as Leith. These buses run less frequently and this route schedule can be found here.

Option 2: Taxi from airport

Taxi: A taxi from Edinburgh Airport takes an average of 25 minutes to travel to the city centre. There is a taxi rank opposite the arrivals terminal and an average fare starts from £35. Ubers are limited in Edinburgh.

Book a taxi at the airport

Tip: I have had good experiences with Welcome Pickups, where a taxi driver will be waiting for you at the airport with a name sign. With this you are sure of an available taxi and the price is only slightly more expensive than a regular taxi. Simply check your fare at Welcome Pickups.

Option 3: Tram

Tram: Opposite the terminal you will also find the tram stop, from where trams will take you to St. Andrews Square. This ride takes 35 minutes and runs at least every 15 minutes between 06:07 and 22:48. Tickets cost £6 so are slightly more expensive than the bus. Please note that you buy your tickets from one of the machines before boarding the tram (more info).

Option 4: Rental Car

By rental car: Are you going on a tour in Scotland? Then you can also rent a car at Edinburgh airport. We have very positive experiences with car rental at the airport via Easyterra. This website compares different rental companies by using the search engine below:
